We worked closely with Sally Nellson-Barrett at Malone and Co. on this project. Sally has an amazing ability to tell a story. When she came to us and asked about stop motion, I immediately wanted to work on it. About two years ago we helped Alan Tipp (EYEKING) with a stop motion presentation that helped them partner with Crocs to make sunglasses. I really enjoyed working on it and I was excited to do some hands on again.
Sally wrote the script and I brainstormed materials we could use to tell the story. MindMixer has a great library of icon brand assets so I thought why not just cut them out ourselves. While growing up my dad and I often worked on side projects. We built decks, roofed houses, updated kitchens, repaired furniture etc. So I have a lot of past experience in using different tools.
Part one: Creation
A scroll saw was best when cutting intricate curves.

Some cuts were trickier than others.
180 grit sand paper to smooth out the edges.
We ended up with 137 cut out, sanded and painted pieces.
Step two: Stop Motion

Frame by frame we made things move. Watch the finished project here.
