I skateboarded 50 miles, but Mike Smith, Phil Burcher and Steve Andel skated 450 miles.
Why? For a skatepark.
A non-profit skatepark in Lincoln, NE called Bay198 that Mike Smith founded and I serve on the Board of Directors for.
But it’s more than just a skatepark…
It will be a place that will help support, cultivate and provide a platform for skateboarders to create and develop… be it skateboarding, music, art, photography or whatever.
Some of Bay198′s goals (long-term + short-term):
• Move to a better location that’s not in a mall and closes at 9pm.
• Build better ramps.
• Have a larger building with room for a music venue and gallery.
• Keep it inexpensive, if not free.
• Increase the number of kids coming through.
I want to complain about how much I hurt after pushing for 50 miles. But I only went 1/9th of what Mike Smith, Phil Burcher and Steve Andel did.
Rather than complain, I’ll just soak in ice and be grateful that there are guys like them willing to do whatever it takes to support the skateboard community.
Thank you to everyone that supported my miles!
